Outfit of the Day: Miss Piggy

I’m so late on putting up my Halloween costume, but I just have to share it! I was my inner diva, Miss Piggy. It was something I had decided I wanted to do last year, but I didn’t really have the guts to pull it off. I know that sounds kind of silly, but this costume was not only adorable, but kind of political for me. It was embracing my body and publicly stating that acceptance and love. I was openly saying to my friends and family (which is sometimes much harder to do when you are not in the safe space of the blogosphere or fatosphere) that I am fat, beautiful, and fabulous. It was interesting, actually. A lot of people wouldn’t comment or ask about what I obviously was for fear of hurting my feelings. Ridiculous, right? Once I stated it was okay to talk about in a fun, loving manner, and showed that I was obviously comfortable with myself and the ease in which I am able to portray a fabulous PIG, people lightened up and told me how great I looked.

Most of this is my own clothing and accessories. The great thing about a Miss Piggy outfit is it’s truly versatile. She has worn anything and everything throughout the years. The wig is, of course, from a Halloween store. I wanted to share a quick note about cheap wigs and how to fix them. This wig was a MESS when I pulled it out of the bag. Luckily, with the help of a friend, she told me how to fix it. You take fabric softener, and hand wash the wig in the sink with cool water. Then hang it up in front of a fan inside out and let it dry. Once it’s dry, brush it out. It will make it lay so much more naturally.

So, bottom line is: Don’t be afraid! Grab that wig, a fantastic dress, and show the world your inner diva, even if she is a pig.

Attention Followers!

I am starting a body positive art project, and I need your help!

For this project I will be asking willing participants (friends, tumblr followers, family, etc) to send me images of their breasts (I am starting with breasts but plan on also doing a tummy and bum project too) to create a grid of anonymous body parts in all different shapes, sizes, colors, ages, etc.

The end result should look like a floral pattern or geometric design, but upon further inspection is actually a few hundred pictures of different kinds of boobs/bellies/butts. I will be gum-printing small grids initially, and screen-printing large ones on scarves that you can wear (!!!), or hang on your wall. The example above is only a small portion of what is to come.

They do not have to be good quality, and can be taken with cellphones/laptop cams/etc. The only thing I ask is that they are only of the specific body-part, although I can do some more specific cropping if you do not have that ability.

The ideal image of your breasts should be from around your collar bone to anywhere under your breast. But do keep in mind these images are cropped to squares, and can use a bit of room around and underneath the breast to ensure nothing gets cut-off.

The more I can accumulate, the better, so spread the word that this is a positive, uplifting environment for self-love, and anyone who wants to participate can. If you identify with having breasts - you’re in!

Every participant will remain anonymous but don’t worry, no one will be able to tell anyone else apart. I will also accept anonymous emails, if you’re feeling shy.
